From a 3D-printed eyelid to Europe's hands-on training platform
LidSUMMIT began as a research project at the Medical University of Innsbruck and has grown into a recurring surgical training format for eyelid and corneal surgery, built by clinicians, anatomists, and engineers from Tyrol.
Our goal is simple: make surgical training in oculoplastics as close to the real operation as it can get, and make it accessible to surgeons across Europe.
Three years, three editions, one growing platform
The world's first anatomically precise 3D-printed eyelid
Initiated by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Marko Konschake at the Medical University of Innsbruck and developed with eyecre.at, Addion, and med-lab, with support from Stratasys and funding from the Province of Tyrol. Presented to the public in February 2024, the model set a new standard for realistic simulation in surgical education.
The first LidSUMMIT Tirol
The inaugural edition brought surgeons to Innsbruck for three days of hands-on training in functional and aesthetic eyelid surgery, combining specially preserved human specimens with 3D-printed simulation models.
The Second Lid & Keratoplastic SUMMIT
The second edition expanded beyond oculoplastics into reconstructive and corneal surgery, adding advanced keratoplasty techniques such as PK and DALK to the station programme.
LidSUMMIT Tirol 2026
The third edition, EACCME accredited and taught by an interdisciplinary faculty from ophthalmology, oculoplastics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and clinical anatomy, running 8-10 October at the Medical University of Innsbruck.
LidSUMMIT Europe
The format now travels: in cooperation with host universities, LidSUMMIT can be established as a recurring training programme at institutions across Europe.
A partnership of clinic, university, and industry from Tyrol
The organizing group
LidSUMMIT is organized by eyecre.at GmbH, based at Health Hub Tirol in Innsbruck, together with the Medical University of Innsbruck. The group combines medical device development, surgical education, and event operations under one roof.
The scientific board
An interdisciplinary faculty of specialists in ophthalmology, oculoplastics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, cornea, and clinical anatomy shapes the programme and teaches every station in person.
